Cedar Bluebird Houses (features a cast iron Lone Star of Texas) 100% Western Red Cedar This Bluebird Nest Box is a modified design of the very popular "Peterson Bluebird House". According to data presented by W. H. Davis in the Journal of Field Ornithology in 1996 He revealed that the Eastern Bluebird prefers this style of nest box over the traditional rectangular box. The Bluebirds seem to prefer the oval entrance and slightly smaller floor area of the "Peterson Nest Box". The design is more difficult to make due to the angled cuts, and is more costly due to the increased material requirements. The appearance of the "Peterson Nest Box" also plays a part in its popularity with the fans of the Bluebird. The over sized roof is weather tight and it's size discourages predators from getting at the young. The sloped front is an aid to the young birds when they are ready to leave the nest. Removing the screw out of the bottom front panel allows the front to swing up for easy end of the season cleaning. The house is made from Western Red Cedar for maximum durability and is assembled using cedar specific wood screws. These high-quality bluebird houses include the following features: Hand-made from weather-resistant Western Red Cedar and assembled with Cedar specific screws. These houses will last for many years. The roof is pitched at 30 degrees for better rain run off. Entrance hole is oval 2 1/4" L x 1 3/8" W . Positioned 6" above the floor. The back has two (2) predrilled and countersunk holes to allow for trouble free mounting and reduced splitting. Mounting screws included. The floor has 1/4" drainage holes and both sides have 1/2" ventilation holes. The entire construction is Western Red Cedar assembled with screws specifically treated for use with Cedar. Mounting instructions and screws included. Handcrafted in the USA! Take an extra step to safeguard your birds against predators with the Slant-Front Bluebird House. The tapered design makes it easier for bluebirds to build their nests, because this shape requires less nesting material. A slanting roof and inside drainage holes also guard against rain. Other features include ventilation holes that keep the house from overheating and harming baby birds and a rough interior that enables fledglings to climb out of the box. Lift the front panel for easy seasonal cleanouts. Mount this bird house to a post or tree to entice beautiful, musical, scarce bluebirds to your yard.
